ABOUT THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR

Jennifer Kent

My name is Jen, I’m a Chartered Accountant and finance analyst, working for one of the largest mining companies in the world. At the age of 22 I purchased my first investment property with a deposit I had been saving for since the age of 7. I have also accumulated a substantial share portfolio.

As a child, my mother taught me financial concepts creating stories using interesting characters based on our pet cats. From a young age my sisters and I have learnt the importance of saving, getting a good education, and setting ourselves up to become financially independent. I was surprised throughout my upbringing to find this wasn’t common and often had friends come to me asking questions about how I save and invest. With the decline in financial literacy of children and young adults, it has become my passion to share this knowledge of financial concepts with young girls and boys in a fun, contemporary way with modern characters they can identify with.

FROM THE EDITOR

FinSavKids is all about teaching children of all ages the fundamentals of good financial practices that will last a lifetime, in a fun and engaging way through the use of e-books, hardcopy books, and other multimedia applications.

What makes FinSavKids different is that it encourages children to learn financial lessons in an age appropriate language allowing them to read for themselves. The characters align themselves with behaviours readily recognisable by children. Bright bold colours have been used to bring the message home and to appeal to the millennium child.

The lessons taught in these books are necessary life skills, vital to a generation that may not be able to afford to buy their first home.  The books will introduce them to the concept of financial freedom from a young age.  Financial education is something that is not taught in our schooling system, and parents often find it difficult teaching their kids these skills. These books are a valuable resource for any family serious about the financial freedom of their children.
